hi there
My name is Lauren M. Shook, and I am currently a postdoc at UT El Paso’s Diana Natalicio’s Institute for Hispanic Student Success. My research interests stem from my professional experience in school districts, higher education, and educational nonprofits as well as from the educational struggle experienced by my Mexican American mother and students.
My interests are sociological, and my current central interest is in how Latinx racialization impacts access to public goods arguments for higher education access and funding. I hope to contribute to scholarship, teaching, and service which make more just US education systems a reality.
Happy to connect with others engaging in education topics with a critical lens.

the whole me
In addition to being a graduate student, I have a life made full by family and laughter. I enjoy travel, cooking, art, being outdoors, and keeping in touch with friends who always seem to live too far away. I’m also a #mamademic, and I cherish the opportunity to pass the love my family has given me on to my children.
